Johnny tests at Silverstone, August 1999

The Stewart-Ford team ran both cars in a pre-Spa test at Silverstone from Tuesday 17th to Thursday 19th August 1999. Also present were McLaren, Jordan, Williams, Benetton, Prost, Sauber, BAR and Arrows. Luciano Burti, Stewart F3 driver and SGP test driver, drove the SF-3 on the Tuesday. Johnny tested on both the Wednesday and Thursday, and Rubens Barrichello was present on the Thursday only.

It was a good test for the team, and for Johnny who was third quickest on both days. Only the McLarens of Mika Hakkinen and test driver Nick Heidfeld were quicker on Wednesday. On Thursday, Johnny set second quickest time, just 1/10th slower than Hakkinen's quickest of the day, in the morning when he did most of his running. Rubens was only able to go faster right at the very end of the afternoon, after slapping on new tyres and reducing his fuel load. He was quicker on his last run by just 0.003s!

By kind permission of the Stewart-Ford team, a few fans were again allowed access to the test (another big thank you goes to Bob Herbert for arranging it). The photos below were taken on the final day of the test. You can also find some more photos of the other drivers and teams at the test on DC's Website.
