Fans' messages on Johnny's third win

Thanks from Johnny
Message received from Johnny at 20:00hrs, 30th
September:
Hi all
I've now been able to go through all the messages on the site and read
them - fantastic! I wanted to send a video to say thanks to everyone but
the sound has gone again on my PC at home! So, I've asked David to pass on
my thanks to you all. I'm hoping to come online for a chat session on the
site some time in October so we can chat about it then.
Best wishes
Johnny
Thanks from Bob Herbert
E-mail message received from Bob Herbert at 22:45hrs, 27th
September:
To all of Johnny's Fans.
I am absolutely overwhelmed with the response to Johnny's fantastic win
in Germany. The E/Mails, letters on the web site, faxes and phone calls.
Thank you everyone for your loyal and continued support for Johnny. To
see and hear the support from every corner of the world brings a lump to
my throat.
It makes me very proud to see the response to Johnny's determination.
Thank you and regards
Bob Herbert
Fans' messages of congratulations
to Johnny (P3)
The website's Visitors' Book was red hot straight after Johnny's
fantastic win at the Nürburgring on 26th September 1999. The latest messages received
follow below and will continue to be updated for as long as they keep
coming!
From: Katia Motta
Message: Dear Johnny,
I am 24 and I have always been a fan of yours.
I would like to tell you that I was watching the Nurburgring-Grand Prix on
TV while I was preparing myself for my marriage. This was a great marriage
gift for me! Also my husband is becoming a fan of yours. Both of us like
your way of being a F1 driver but being at the same time a sincere and
"normal" person. We hope that you will reach other victories in
the future, you really deserve this!!

Message: well done on your latest gp win johnny! everyone
knows that you are a superb driver with s*** luck, i hope the latest win
will remind everyone of that fact, good luck for 2000.
From: Duncan

Message: Just a quick note to say congratulations to Johnny
Herbert for his victory at the Nürburgring. Both my wife Lisa and I
were on the edge of our seats near the end of the race. It was
really great to see somebody who has suffered from the worst luck pull off
a victory like that one.
From: Paul
& Sue Woodward
Message: Just a quickie, to add our
belated congratulations to the list. Well done at Europe and best
wishes for the future at Jaguar to Johnny. That shut a few up then didn,t
it, hope you do the same to Eddie next year too.
From: Rachael
Message: A beauty to see,our house errupted with delight. I've
been following your progress through this season particularly, and you
deserve all the success possible. Next season will be YOURS!!!
From: Pete Hudson
Message: Well done Johnny for the Nurburgring. I look
forward to seeing you put Irvine in his place next year! I remember
seeing you at Spa in 95, out of the pits and straight into the wall in
practice! Was that a stuck throttle?
Oh yes, a good site, keep the good work going!
From: Alastair Johnson
Message: I've not been happy like this at the outcome of a
race for a very long time (James Hunt, Suzuka '76 I think) . It was just
perfect Johnny! After such poor luck for so very long, so many rolls of
the dice, after so much crap that's come your way, I've so admired the way
you've kept your head cool and your humour intact . It was a great race
and I'm so pleased for you and the team . I literally jumped for joy
(which wasn't too clever since I was standing under a lampshade at the
time...) . Anyway, you made me proud to be British, and I'm so pleased to
have found this site so I could tell you . It really means a lot . And
next season, a British marque & 2 British drivers (!!) . I can't
believe it . Roll on 2000!
Go Johnny Go, we love you !
From: Jon Gibbins
Message: Congrats to Johnny on the latest win, 'bout time, and
can we have a few more please? Will he pay for the time off work owing to
the hangover his win caused? Congrats also on the site. Regular updates
and easy nav, along with good content and a pleasing design make it the
best F1 drivers site (narrowly beating Alex Wurz). (DC: Thanks, Jon!)
From: Michael W. Helechu
Message: A hearty congratulations for the European GP victory.
Great to see all that hard work pay off. Best wishes to EVERYONE involved
in bringing Johnny to the winner's circle.
From: David Wright
Message: Just wanted to add my
congratulations on that great win at the European G.P. I was on holiday in
Rhodes and we watched the race in a bar surrounded by a healthy mix of
Brits, Germans, Italians and Greeks. Depending on the allegiances each
enthralling incident was met by whoops of delight or deep groans, but when
Johnny took the lead I jumped out the chair with excitement, then I was
biting my nails waiting for the inevitable car fault, but it never came,
so when Johnny took the chequered flag NEARLY the whole bar
(including myself) roared and jumped about, the scenes were amazing. I can
only guess that Johnny is popular even with the Germans!
Anyway congratulations again to Johnny.
From: Elizabeth Avery-
Brown
Message: I have never given up on you. I could'nt have been
more pleased if I had won myself.
Love Lizzy xxxx
From: Joshua
Message: Great Work Johnny!!!!
This is my second letter, but i'm just so happy!!!
You made the happiest day of my life so far (well i'm only 16). I really
hope you can do it again in Malaysia and Japan! because they are day races
for us Australians, so i won't be so tired when i watch them.
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!

From: Stephen Herbert
Message: Johnny
Congratulations on finally finishing in your rightful position !
Are we related??? My grandparents are Kitty & Jack Herbert from
Kingston-Upon-Thames
I hope you move up in the championship soon, but even if you don't, you
are quite clearly becoming consistently better with every race. Are we
going to see a HERBERT world champion soon ? ... I think so.
I went go-karting for the first time the other week, enterd in YOUR name,
and came second in the championsip out of 30 people ...... I just hope my
luck rubs off on you as you really deserve it.
Have you ever thought of setting up your own clothing brand ...... I have
been trying to find a Stewart GP baseball cap with Herbert down the side
of it, but no-one makes them. If you ever find one PLEASE let me know
Anyway, all the very best for the future. I hope you get all the luck in
the world for next season.
PS ... if you get a chance, say hello on the TV to "The Herberts in
Poynton"....... my dad's name is john and he's a big fan .... he
would be dead chuffed

congradulate Johnny on his latest win, and that I had just logged onto the
internet so it's the first time I've visited your site and I think it's
great. Looking forward to seeing you all at Kings Cross, and maybe we
might be aloud to beat johnny this year.

drive and success in Germany.
If possible I would like to congratulate Jackie Stewart also. I have not
seen him to talk to since Detroit in the 80's.

Tasman series. I live in Los Angeles and Watch all F! qualifying and races
live on speedvision. I build Honda engines for the Cart FedEx Champ cars
and did previously in 95 & 96 build Ford @ Cosworth, So if possible
give Jackie my best.

From: Brian

Message: Well done Johnny!!! I nearly wet my pants seeing you
go over the start/finish line to win your third Grand Prix. It felt like a
ice age waiting for the laps to go down. I was keeping my fingers crossed
that everything was going to be fine and that no bad luck would tempt it's
fate, otherwise I would have gone mad and booked myself into the nearest
loony bin. I can't imagine what it's like to win a Grand Prix but the
sweetness of your VICTORY must have been FANTASTIC! If anyone ever
deserved to win on that day you did. I never seen so much determination as
you have and it wasn't pure luck either. It was great judgement on you
part.
I'll never forget the time that I first met you at Adelaide in 1990. You
were coming out of the Pits/Paddock enclosure on your mountain bike, when
I stopped you to ask for an autograph. You willing obliged and we started
to chat for a few minutes. So off you strolled, when a load of young
Japanese girls came up to me and asked who you were. This surprised me, as
I knew you had been racing in the Japanese F3000 series that year. Maybe
the mountain bike had mislead them. Anyhow, when I told them that you were
Johnny Herbert: Lotus Formula 1 driver, they immediately swarmed all over
you for autographs. You looked at me and shook you head, as if to say
"You sod!". I laughed my SOCKS off! As usual, you obliged and
signed all their programs and everyone else who asked. A truly great
driver.
Your first win must have been GREAT at your home circuit, with all your
home support (I wish I had been there, as I remember what it was like,
when I was there in 1987 for Mansell). But oh what joy you and your family
must feel with this special WIN under your belt. You will always be
remembered as the driver to give Jackie Stewart and his team it's first
Grand Prix win. I only hope and truly believe that you can go on to win
more races and ultimately the World Championship with Jaguar in the
future. I believe you can do it Johnny. So do a lot of other people. We
have faith in you.
All the best for the future with Jaguar & Ford. Brian

Message: site is great as always. I just wanted to, belatedly
say congratulations and thanks for making last weekend one to remember.
Lets hope its not another four years, but if it is it''ll be worth the
wait. Kinda reminded me of Donington in 1993, playing the weather a
braving it out, that drive was as good as Senna's that day, and last
Sunday was as good again. More of the same please....

Congratulations to him on his European GP win.
From: Linda Rhodes
Message: As a long-standing fan whose home-made "Go
Johnny Go" banners have fluttered from many Silverstone grandstands
over the years, I'd like to congratulate Johnny on his 3rd GP win via your
(excellent) site. I don't usually record races, but for some reason
I taped this one (must have had an inkling it was going to be special.)
Have you seen the latest "Black Flag" cartoon? It shows a
typical Louise & Johnny post-race interview, and can be found at www.soft-toon.demon.co.uk/f1toons
Anyway, this cartoon prints off at just the right size to fit the video
box. Trouble is, many people who've heard I videoed the race want to
borrow it, so it will be ages before it gets back to me (if ever..!)
Thanks for producing such a great site.

From: Paul Mousley
Message: I know this is a while since the victory at
Nurburgring but believe you me I haven't stopped smiling yet. What a
brilliant drive to put Ruben's well and truly in his place. all that bad
luck this year now seems worth it. as I sit at my PC I stare at a wall of
photos of Johnny from his 1st Ralt F3 car to present day and I feel so
proud, god knows how Johnny feels.
Well done lets hope that we can celebrate with another Autosport BRITISH
RACING GREEN headline next year.
PS the only photograph I am missing of every car Johnny has driven is of
the Tyrrell in Spa 89, can anyone help me obtain one. Also any good
quality Renown Mazda le mans photos would be paid for.

From: Ian Trott
Message: Fantastic. That was a
brilliant drive. Johnny, you ARE THE MAN!
You showed the sort of calmness and determination that you drove with
at the Festival back in '85. Smooth and collected. What a drive. Johnny,
at his best. I was so pleased for you. I could hardly watch the last few
laps, dreading the inevitable breakdown, but for once you had some good
luck. Keep hold of those stones.
I have been a fan since 1981, when I did a bit of karting. I thought I was
good until I saw you in action at first hand. And like you I got myself
"smashed up" so I know what determination and courage you have
shown.
Long may you continue to show them how it should be done.
Rubens comments were particularly welcome. His day will come.
All the best.
Ian.

Message: Nice race Johnny. At least someone kept his head! I
can't remember laughing so much at a GP.
From: Ian Underhill
Message: Brilliant Drive Johnny.I've been a fan since reading
an a Car & Car conversions article on Britain young Hotshots you and
Dia Llewellin just before your entry into F1 with Benetton. Its been a long
wait for win number 3 but worth it. I had to Video the race and avoid
hearing the result until I could watch it on Monday. It was the best race
of the season, a superb drive in dreadful conditions. I imagine it was
really satisfying to beat the likes of Mika, DC and Eddie etc in a battle
of car control and tactics. And as others have said I'm really glad you
beat Rubens and Eddie in giving Jackie his first win. Hopefully he will
realize how important it is to field TWO competitive and reliable cars.
Good luck for the rest of the year I hope to see you beating Eddie next
year.

Message: Dear Johnny,
Congratulations with your 1st place in the Grand Prix of Europe. It
was even your 1st one in your career, wasn't it?? [DC: No, it was his
third!] I have already saw the new Jaguar
racing car, lightgreen that must make the car very competative. Well Lots
of luck in the last two races of these season(Malysie and Japan). And even
the last races for Stewart Grand Prix. Lots
of luck too in the next season for Jaguar racing and with your new team
mate Eddie Irvine.
I hoop you will write back to me soon??!!

Message: Good afternoon mr. Johnny Herbert!
Many congratulations for your victory in the European Grand Prix. I am
very happy for it. And I am very happy that your team-mate Barrichello
came to second. I wished that he would overtake Trulli but no. I thought
when you moved to 1st place that so sympathetic guy as you has to win
after four years and you did it!!!
Congratulations once yet!!
Good luck to Malaysia!!!

From: Stephanie
Message: Hi!!!
It's again me, Stephanie from Switzerland. My English hasn't getting
better, but who cares in such moments...
I'm Swiss, so I was kind of a "Sauber-Girl" all my (formula 1-)
life. But last year when Johnny changed the team, I recognized that I
don't like anybody at Sauber that much as I like Johnny so it wasn't a
hard decision for me to "change the team with Johnny". A lot of
people couldn't understand this, they said Big-Alesi (one point, neeh-ha)
will win some races in this saison... And now Johnnys win at Nürburgring...
I'm soo glad I did the right thing. It's very hard to describe emotions,
but I'll try: During the end of the race I ran up and down through the
house, praying (although I actually don't believe in God...), almoust
destroying my fingernails and hairs.. My dad almoust killed me, but I'm
glad he didn't (big smile) cuz if he had killed me I couldn't have felt
some of the greatest emotions I've ever had! I really don't know how to
describe what I felt when Johnny passed the finish line! The emotions have
almoust been that strong as when last year "my" football team
"ascended" back to the first Swiss division.... Just so great
and wonderful!!! And than, when the 3 Stewart-guys appeared on the podium
I cried with Paul Stewart..;-))) No, really, I don't know what or how to
say, I'm just SOOOOO HAPPY FOR JOHNNY!!! Nobody deserved it so much like
Johnny did! On Monday, I travelled through whole Switzerland (well almoust...)
and bought every British (and not British) newspaper I could find...
By the way, Rubens is a very nice and sympathic guy too, isn't he? What do
you think about him?
At last, well - it's just so great! I'm proud being a Johnny fan and I'll
ever be one!!!!
And if Johnny ever reads this few lines I want him to know that he has
soooo much fans who like him THAT MUCH!!! HE REALLY CAN BE SOOO PROUD OF
HIMSELF!!!!! And he has this great kind of humor...
Again: Congratulations to Johnny, Rubens and all the other Stewart
guys!!!!
(I killed my bottle of Champagne - which I've got to my 20est birthday
last year - and I think it's a brilland cause, isn't it?)
Love and best wishes to all of you!!!

Message: I know this is a bit late in
the day but I thought I'd let the dust settle after the weekend before
committing thoughts to the ether. Looking at it objectively and in the
cold light of day I think it is only fair to say that Johnny's win in
Germany was just about THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN SINCE THE BIRTH OF MY
DAUGHTER!! I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting this victory for many years.
We as fans have been though many a heartbreak since '95 (though probably
nothing compared to Johnny). Keep it up, give Eddie hell and bring the
championship back to Britain!
